Established in 2019, Mic Drop is a unique project for 14-18 year old emerging artists. Our in-house programme helps them to discover and express their creativity. Over the 24-week course they will develop skills in songwriting, composition and performance.

Sessions take place once a week at The Avenues recording studios in W10 under the inspirational direction of our Lead Worker Del, a gifted engineer and recording artist in his own right, and Takara, our motivational youth worker who helps develop both music skills and self-belief.

Working with the incredible team and facilities at ICMP and the legendary Church Studios, these young artists stage at least one live showcase performance during their course.

In early 2023, we introduced Releasement, a 6-month artist development course for the 14 -21 year old graduates of our Mic Drop programme (and those whose music is sufficiently developed). Releasement participants obtain the skills required to professionally create and release their original music onto streaming platforms.

The Church Studios have generously co-funded this year’s Mic Drop and Releasement programmes. Due to this partnership, Releasement participants have access to A&R development sessions with Paul Epworth and orchestral instrument recording sessions with his Grammy award-winning team. Also included in the Releasement programme are songwriting, performance and production sessions, all hosted by music industry professionals.

Releasement offers young artists the chance to propel their music in a safe and supported way at no cost to them. Giving young people who are marginalised or disadvantaged by their circumstances the opportunity to experience the joy of making music, as well as the commitment, dedication and 360-thinking needed to be a professional recording artist.

Releasement artists create a collaborative EP/Mixtape, music videos and host live performances of their original music.

We strongly encourage young people with a proven creative track record to apply for this programme. Don’t be shy, get in touch – please email: studio@avenues.org.uk
