The first of two events we’ll be hosting on the Friday 23rd August is ‘Carnival of The Avenues’
Every summer we close Droop Street and hold a showcase made-up of the young people who have taken part in our Summer Holiday programme showcasing what they have achieved over the 5-week holiday. Carnival of The Avenues is an extension of this showcase exclusive to young people and the parents/guardians of our members.
This year’s ‘Carnival of The Avenues’ theme is a celebration of both the position of Carnival in the heritage of our community and the creativity of our young members. With planning, auditions and rehearsals throughout the summer holiday period, Carnival of The Avenues will be a Notting Hill Carnival themed celebratory day.
With The Avenues Youth Project already being home to a number of talented musicians, dancers and performers we will harness the creativity and talent of our members to stage a memorable afternoon of artistic creativity and Caribbean flavour.
Expect performances across a range of musical genres including Steel Pans, Rap, Pop, Dance, Poetry and Spoken Word with more activities to be announced.
