Join one of our free 6, 11 or 12-week skill courses focusing on catering, hairdressing, content creation and more.
Each course is specifically designed for young people aged 14-19 to give you the skills, hands-on experience and guidance from industry professionals you need to start your own business or kickstart your professional employment journey.
ALL of our skills courses are FREE and running weekly on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays at The Avenues Youth Project from 6:30pm-8:30pm
So, whether you have dreams of becoming the next KSI, want to be the nail stylist to the stars or you just want to make some extra cash while you study,

Back by popular demand – Discover the world of hairdressing in our 12-week hair care and styling course. You’ll learn ponytail construction, Box and Knotless braiding techniques, crochet wig making, clip-in extensions and more.
PONYTAIL CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES
- Learn how to create sleek, structured, and voluminous ponytails, including sectioning, smoothing, and securing hair for long-lasting styles.
- Explore variations in ponytail styling, such as high, low, bubble, and braided ponytails, and understand how to work with different hair textures
BOX & KNOTLESS BRAIDING SKILLS
- Develop skills in creating box and knotless braids, including parting, sectioning, and weaving techniques for a natural finish.
- Practice tension control and hand positioning to achieve clean, durable braids while ensuring client comfort and protecting natural hair
CROCHET BRAIDED WIG MAKING
- Learn the basics of creating crochet braided wigs, including preparing wig caps, securing hair, and using crochet techniques to create realistic styles.
- Practice customizing wigs to fit different head shapes, blending colours, and creating various textures for a personalized look.
CLIP-IN HAIR EXTENSIONS CONSTRUCTION AND APPLICATION
- Gain hands-on experience in constructing and applying clip-in hair extensions, including colour matching, measuring, and securely attaching clips.
- Understand how to blend extensions seamlessly with natural hair for volume, length, or styling versatility, focusing on proper attachment and removal for hair health.

THE FIRST STEPS TO STARTING YOUR CAREER

Below you’ll see the core areas that provide students with a solid foundation in video production, from initial ideas through to a finished, shareable product.
PRE-PRODUCTION ESSENTIALS
- Learn the fundamentals of storytelling, including brainstorming ideas, writing scripts, and storyboarding.
- Develop skills in planning, organising shot lists, and understanding how to structure a video project before filming begins.
CAMERA AND FILMING TECHNIQUES
- Understand the basics of using a camera, framing, lighting, and capturing audio.
- Practice a variety of shots, angles, and movements to enhance visual storytelling.
EDITING AND POST-PRODUCTION
- Get hands-on experience with video editing software to assemble footage, and add transitions, music, sound effects, and titles.
- Learn about colour correction, audio mixing, and how to enhance the final product for a polished video.
PRESENTATION AND FEEDBACK
- Focus on presenting completed projects to an audience, discussing creative choices, and giving constructive peer feedback.
- Learn about different formats for sharing videos, including social media and online platforms, with a focus on responsible sharing and digital citizenship.
