On Monday we hosted a community unveiling of ‘A Portrait of Us’

The artwork entitled ‘A Portrait of Us’ measures an impressive 9 meters by 5 meters. The remarkable new mural created in collaboration with artist Christopher Tipping is a stunningly crafted collage of photography that brings together past and present members of The Avenues alongside landmarks from the local area.

Installed in the club’s dance studio, the mural celebrates the vibrant diversity of the youth club’s community and the history of the surrounding neighbourhood.

The piece features hundreds of local faces—captured at various events, including a community street party held last August to commemorate The Avenues’ 45th anniversary. This collective artwork is a true reflection of the diversity, history, and spirit of Queen’s Park and The Avenues, showcasing both the people and the places that have shaped the club over the years.

Our Engagement, Communities and Culture Manager, Dianne Larrington chatted to Eddie Nestor on BBC Radio London about how the mural came to be and the thread of community that runs through everything we do here at The Avenues Youth Project.
