Mic Drop

Established in 2019, Mic Drop is a free 21-week immersive music course for 14-18 year old emerging artists.

Once a week you’ll meet with the other aspiring artists in our professional recording studios at The Avenues Youth Project.

Guided by an experienced sound engineer and our youth work team you will gain insider knowledge with a series of workshops and challenges run exclusively by music industry professionals.

As well as your studio sessions at Aves, Mic Drop artists will also head to Sony Music Publishing UK to work with a professional Sony Publishing UK Producer and/or Songwriter and visit The Church Studios to record your own music and learn from the same experts that have worked with global artists such as Adele, FKA Twigs, Andre 3000 and many more.

At the end of the 21-weeks you will work with the incredible team and facilities at ICMP to perform the original tracks that you’ve created throughout the course, live at the Mic Drop Showcase, 2025.

Working with the pros and facilities at ICMP and the legendary Church Studios, as artists you will perform at least one live showcase during your course.

We’re looking for aspiring artists aged 14-18 to join us for the next Mic Drop cohort, Mic Drop 8 starting, this September

Whether you’re a singer, rapper, producer or songwriter over the 21-week course you will be challenged and supported to grow your musical talents,

WEEK 2	ALL STAR REMIX CHALLENGE – PT1	Collab with your fellow Mic Drop artists to remix a popular track.
WEEK 3	ALL STAR REMIX CHALLENGE – PT.2	Record your remixes from the All Star Remix Challenge – PT 1
WEEK 4	SONGWRITING MASTERCLASS WITH SONY	Head to Sony Music Publishing UK for a songwriting masterclass to learn about elements of songwriting, structure and composition from a Sony Music Publishing UK songwriter/producer
WEEK 5	SONGWRITING MASTERCLASS RECAP	Finish off your songs from week 4
WEEK 6	TBC	👀
WEEK 7	STUDIO FAMILIARISATION PT.1	Get to know how to make the most of your time in the recording studio
WEEK 8	STUDIO FAMILIARISATION PT.2	With guest producer
WEEK 9	LIVE INSTRUMENTS WEEK	Create your own beats with live instruments at ICMP
WEEK 10	COMFORT ZONE CHALLENGE PT.1	Explore different genres and create music that is outside of your comfort zone.
WEEK 11	COMFORT ZONE CHALLENGE PT.2	We’re not done yet, head back out of your comfort zone for another week
WEEK 12	COMFORT ZONE CHALLENGE FEEDBACK	You will be critiquing and giving feedback to your fellow artists through constructive criticism.

WEEK 13	WELLBEING WEEK	Deepdive into looking after yourself so you can be the best artist you can be. Focussing on your diet, mental health, support systems and goals..
WEEK 14	TIKTOK + SOCIAL MEDIA	Learn how the utilise social media and build your brand as an artist.
WEEK 15	TIKTOK + SOCIAL MEDIA PRACTICAL SESSION	Create your release digital marketing timeline
WEEK 16	SONG DEVELOPMENT PT.1	Working on the tracks you’ve created so far.
WEEK 17	SONG DEVELOPMENT PT.2	Mix and mastering the songs your songs
WEEK 18	PERFORMANCE PREP	Work on performance techniques for the upcoming showcase Focussing stage presence, audience engagement, vocal and breathing techniques
WEEK 19	PERFORMANCE MASTERCLASS	Taking all of the skills you’ve learnt from Week 18 to ICMP. Working with their experts to develop your performing confidence
WEEK 20	SHOWCASE DRESS REHEARSAL	Heading to back to ICMP for a dress rehearsal before the big showcase
WEEK 21	FINAL SHOWCASE	Perform the tracks you’ve created with your fellow artists in front of a live audience at the Mic Drop 8 Showcase
